Built
by Africa,
For the World
Jamhuri OS is more than software — it is a sovereign digital infrastructure layer that enables Africa to own, control, and scale its technological future.
A Next-Generation Operating System for Africa
Jamhuri OS is a next-generation mobile and embedded operating system built in Africa, for Africa — with global scalability in mind. Developed by innovators at Career Craft Training Institute, Maai Mahiu, Naivasha, Kenya.
It is engineered on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) foundation and customised to unify digital services, enhance cybersecurity, and empower individuals, businesses, and governments.
By building on AOSP, Jamhuri OS benefits from a proven, widely-deployed codebase while replacing proprietary Google services with locally governed alternatives.
Our Philosophy
- Technology should serve local communities, not extract from them
- Data sovereignty is a fundamental right, not a luxury
- Open source enables transparency, trust, and collaboration
- African talent can build world-class technology
The Problem We Solve
Africa's digital ecosystem depends heavily on foreign-built platforms. This creates compounding challenges:
-
Data Sovereignty Gaps
User and government data processed on foreign servers under foreign jurisdictions.
-
High Licensing Costs
Recurring fees that drain capital from local economies.
-
Poor Localisation
Interfaces and services not built for African languages, contexts, or connectivity realities.
-
Cybersecurity Exposure
Platforms not optimised for Africa-specific threat models.
-
Missed Economic Value
Billions in software revenue flowing out of the continent annually.
Jamhuri OS: An African Answer
An AOSP-based operating system with a custom system layer that replaces foreign dependencies with African-built or African-governed alternatives.
Sovereign App Store
A sovereign app store and developer ecosystem governed from Kenya, with local payment integrations.
African Languages
Support for African languages and region-specific UI patterns built into the core system.
Data Residency
Data residency controls — user data stays within African cloud infrastructure by default.
Hardened Security
Hardened security model tailored to African cybersecurity priorities and threat landscapes.
System Connectors
Pre-integrated connectors for healthcare, education, and e-government systems.
Open Platform
An open platform for African developers and startups to build, monetise, and scale.
"To make Africa a global technology leader by building operating systems and digital infrastructure that are owned, developed, governed, and scaled from within the continent."
